Fashion and Function
Very hard to beat the aesthetics of a classic mesh style motorsport wheel. This wheel style has become very popular because when tested, its strength-to-weight ratio is very good... even more so when constructed from Forged Magnesium.
During the design process, wheels are theoretically loaded through a process called FEA (Finite Element Analysis) such that their strength can be determined and verfied based on the requirements of the car. Forged Magnesium enables a wheel design to carry the same load rating (strength of the wheel) of that of a forged aluminum wheel, but with a weight saving of about 30%
Side scalloping or side milling is a design technique used to remove mass from a wheel spoke (when the FEA process determines that material can be removed and the required load rating and strength can still be maintained)
The end resut is a pretty wheel, a strong wheel and a light wheel that looks at home on most sports car applications.... and very much at home on this 997
If you are interested in a forged magnesium wheel set, AWC is now building monoblock (1 pc) and modular (2pc and 3pc) making this option available for almost any application.
